Doomsday 4K 2008 Theatrical Cut

Along with the undead, evil alien creatures and monstrous victims of radiation, from time to time the cinematography reveals another enemy of all mankind - the painted non-conformist. When civilization and progress turn away from some piece of land, sooner or later the inhabitants grow painted Mohawks on their heads, their skin is covered with tattoos, and their necks are decorated with studded belts. The new hooligans, of course, hate rich, law-abiding citizens, and smash their skulls before they can even ask for directions to the library. They also drink a lot, party a lot, show their tongues and vandalize to loud guitar music.

It was just such a big Sex Pistols concert that Scotland, infected with the deadly virus, turned into, when the UK authorities chose the most sure way to get rid of the spread of the infection by isolating the entire northern third of the island. For this purpose, as usual, another Great Wall was erected and civilians who tried to call for democracy were shot. However, almost three decades have passed, the not-too-distant future has come, and the surviving Scots have shone in front of the satellite with their lacquered hairstyles, and the virus has overcome the barrier built to it and entrenched in London. The government responded with the right mission - to find a vaccine. The sealed gates were opened, among the tough soldiers selected the best, gave modern weapons and even two armored cars - although the wonders of transport strength in the film demonstrated only Bentley - and under the leadership of boy-baby Eden Sinclair (Mitre) sent to Glasgow in search of a medical laboratory guru-professor.

Marshall made his new movie without any mysticism; people infected with the virus here fall to the ground and, which may seem blatantly untrue to modern viewers, really die. And the main villains turn out to be those who have managed to survive locked up and, understandably, hate everyone and everything. The lucky ones with immunity create a reckless society, in their outlook strongly reminiscent of the biker gang from “Mad Max” and live by eating rats and people. However, the director, apparently, decided, as if the originality is still not enough and added another camp to the surviving population, compared to the inhabitants of which Iroquois hooligans looked very reasonable people. The degree of delirium of what is going on is for everyone to evaluate independently, I will only say that by the movie the views on the true picture of the world in the Scots went very and very seriously. Which confirms the finale with an unspoken question - will Scotland have more freedom if the wall is removed?

Nevertheless, Doomsday is not a futuristic fantasy on the theme of psychology of a locked city, but rather a very lashing and driving action movie, which is damn fun to watch: a lot of blood, rock'n'roll, shooting, explosions and women, the only non-fancy supercar and the heroine Mitre, who smokes cigarettes so beautifully in the pouring rain that it is extremely difficult not to fall in love with her at least for a moment.

After his two practically chamber horror films, Marshall has given himself over to globalism, which has put a certain unpleasant imprint of Hollywood dogma on his work, but he hasn't lost his talent for making carnage out of nothing and is more than ready to accept the status of a director who doesn't make bad movies.
