In 1983, Chevy Chase, one of the young members of the popular 'Saturday Night Live' program, prepared for a massive assault on American movie theaters with the movie 'Vacation'. The story was simple but interesting. The Grizwald family, led by the rascally Clark, set off on a journey across the country to reach the famous amusement park 'Wally World' at the end. The movie was well received by the public and after that we saw several sequels. Sooner or later Clark's story had to end, as it is simply impossible to travel forever, especially in old age, but the producers found a way out. They decided to make a movie about Rusty, Clark's son, and this movie appeared in the cinema in 2015. It did not become a particular hit, but it turned out to be quite good entertainment.
Rusty Griswold works as a pilot for a budget airline. He rarely ever agrees to experiments and always rests with his loved ones in the same place - a small cabin in the woods. His wife and children are frankly fed up with it, but Rusty noticed it only after many years. Realizing his wrong, Rusty decides to surprise his family, takes a car and goes with them to the same 'Wally World', as once in his childhood.
According to Rusty, this is a great opportunity for their family to bond, get to know each other better and see the indescribable American beauty. But in the tradition of the Grizwald family, something is bound to go wrong, and trouble starts right from the beginning. Not only that the car has a stroppy character, but on the way there are very strange people who are either maniacs or just crazy, but the trip is a trip. It takes the whole family to get to the amusement park.
Honestly speaking, the new 'Vacation' turned out to be even more interesting and funny than the original. The authors were not afraid to saturate their movie with a lot of cool jokes, many of them I remember even now, because they raised the mood. Besides, it was the right decision to take on the main role of Ed Helms from 'Vegas Boyhood'. His image of an average American as best suited for a movie about ordinary people in an unusual situation.
Did not forget about Chevy Chase, who appeared in a cameo. After all, he traveled so many times with his family that he just needed to shine in the role of Clark, though not for long. And in general, this movie has a lot of star appearances including Chris Hemsworth and Norman Reedus. That's a real treat.
'Vacation' is uplifting, it's simple but fun and resourceful. It's nice that some series of old favorites keep coming back in the most unexpected ways, and 'Vacation' is definitely back for a reason.
