Terry works as a longshoreman at the port. The work is hard, and not everyone is allowed to work properly. The port is 'held' by gangsters and they decide who will work today and who will go home again without a penny in his pocket. And so it is every day. It is useless to try to change something alone, and if you ask for help from the police, there is a chance that you will fly off the roof. That's exactly what happened to one of the workers and Terry became an unwitting accomplice to the murder. And now he has to decide whether to tell the police or keep silent like everyone else around him. On the one hand, an innocent man died and Terry can help justice. But on the other hand, to testify against the gangsters means also against his own brother, because he is one of them. Tough choice...
A prime example of a time-tested movie. More than fifty years have passed since its release, and it still looks great. Good direction, great script and of course Marlon Brando's performance. One of his early works and it must be said that he is already here reveals all his talent. A difficult role and he managed to cope with it.
Especially remembered the scene of conversation between the two brothers in the car. It is her then perfectly 'played' Scorsese in his 'Raging Bull'.
A good movie that touches on important issues.
