There are films. They're OK, but you watch a dozen others and you think you've seen them all. But this one stands out from the crowd.
Imagine - you're on the jury of the Cannes Film Festival and you watch films and watch films and watch films and watch films and watch films.... and there's something original.
For me personally, this film is just about the best of the year, having seen it twice at the cinema.
The posters say horror.
You're going to see a horror film, but here it is. Who's gonna like it?
Films should not only be made, but also watched - it's like food, if, for example, Transformers - fast food, then ‘Glitches’ - it may not be a pigeon, but somewhere oyster. Both of which not everyone eats, but the second one not everyone knows how to consume yet.
For me, this is just about the best film of 2007. It's not without its flaws. But still, it beats all of Die Hard. Why? - I think because if you think about it, it touches a nerve. Or rather, it touches a sore spot. If you've got that kind of pain. Although I think everyone has been tormented at least once by loneliness and fear. What if you combine those two feelings?
That's what this film is about. Loneliness and fear. Paranoia. Paranoia that's contagious. Look at the way the protagonist behaves - flinching at her own shadow. Alcohol, drugs. In the beginning, the action is a bit slow, at least it seems so. From there, it builds to something.
The translation is quite satisfying, but I still want to look at this in its intact form, maybe then I'll see the bigger picture?
Ashley Judd - I knew before that she was a truly talented actress, not just pretty. But, how can I put it - I didn't have a reason to. She's amazing. Just burns me on the spot. Now I get it - Talent, and real female sexuality.
I know a lot of people won't understand. I know they'll say they don't like it. But I know it's not just a cheap film aimed at the big box office.
The dialogues are simple, the mood is thrashy. No high-mindedness.
The loneliness of man in society. The environment is a danger to the individual, isolates him. But this is not what takes the film, it takes absolutely unreal action, wonderful performance by Ashley Judd and the feeling that not only the characters, but the film itself, together with the viewer, goes further and further into paranoia.
