For a long time I didn't realize that the American 'Pulse' had a backstory. And only recently I learned about the existence of the Japanese 'Pulse'. Naturally, I was wondering what the Americans made an excellent remake out of.
To be honest, the movie disappointed me a bit. The plot in general is not bad, although there are significant differences between the remake and the original (have a large divergence in the nature and origin of unexplained phenomena). But it is so tightened that already after the middle of the movie I was strongly drawn to sleep. From the two-hour movie it was quite possible to remove, in my opinion, 40 minutes and it would slightly affect the picture.
The emotions of the actors were a little pumped up. Everything that happens on the screen seems too ordinary, the heroes are not too emotional, even in the most stressful situations.
In general, the film is more like a stylized theatrical performance than a mystical thriller. There are no fancy special effects (unless you count the airplane crash). And it's very hard to call it a thriller, it's more of a mystical-philosophical drama.
As a result, I want to say that the movie is most likely twisted around the idea that we live in a rapidly progressing era and all the surrounding technologies negatively affect us, 'zombify' and make us look like ghosts, existing each in their own little closed world.
