The year is 1998... Teenage Bucky loves movies. He also loves his dad (he's an alcoholic), his mom (she's dead and he talks to her ashes in an urn), his friend Vish (he's Hindu and he's mute), and his turtle Spartacus. But more still, it's a movie. So when the local film festival announces an amateur horror competition, Bucky decides to shoot his masterpiece. And then a meteorite falls from the sky, turning Dad into a zombie....
A movie about amateur movies must be sincere - and All you need is blood has everything in order: it's worth to look at Bucky's happy and silly face to believe that this kid really loves what he's doing. Even before the full zombie-thrash-rash-rampage starts, we feel sympathy for the hero - he overcomes obstacle after obstacle on the way to his dream without feeling the cringe (there was no such word in 1998): the camera broke? We'll shoot with a continuous zoom! No actors? We'll put ads all over the neighborhood and promise 5% of the fees (apparently from zero). Dad's turned into a zombie? Oh, great, we'll save on makeup.
So a team of misfits is assembled - Bucky is joined by a girl with stage fright and a retired “actress in her 40s” (Mina Suvari, the wilted rose of “American Beauty”, simply bathes in pleasure in this role). And Bucky himself holds on with difficulty - he's afraid of blood, and it's very hard to shoot zombie horror movies without blood! All this is very nice and sweet until not only the crew members, but also some random people (like Vish's mom) and turtles start to go to waste in the name of filming. It's as if Bucky doesn't even notice the losses - who cares if you can make a cool movie! Fortunately, the buffoonish tone of the whole thing keeps you from getting too sad about it, so you can just relax and enjoy the zombie one-liner goofiness. Although in the moments when the hero edits to his netlena frames of his children's home video with young and healthy parents, you want to let a stingy tear.
The closer to the denouement, the stronger the degree of madness (at the scene with a hand in the ass of a giant zombie turtle you want to scream: “Enough!”), but the main idea is clear in advance - all you need is a movie! Or rather, a movie with blood! Or rather, a horror movie! After all, for every thrash there is a viewer who will like it. As the great Kubrick said, “Take a camera, a little film and make absolutely any movie”. I couldn't have said it better.
