Haven't read Michael Creighton's book, but really liked the movie! There are many movies about alien life coming to earth, like Dreamcatcher by Stephen King or Phantoms by Dean Koontz, but Andromeda is hardly comparable.
The originality of the movie is that the plot dispenses with gunfire, aliens chasing people, etc. The place of action is mostly limited to a subzmenoy laboratory in the heart of the desert. In which the luminaries of science investigate an alien virus that got to earth with a space probe.
The movie will not appeal to everyone, because of the lack of the same shootouts. Basically, we watch the very study of the virus, and scientific work. But it cannot be called a documentary. As a thriller, the movie is a thriller. There are moments that keep you in suspense.
