It is necessary to understand this picture properly, for I have not yet been able to determine my exact attitude toward it.
The manner of narration is very uneven. It's as if the movie doesn't know what genre it belongs to. For an action movie there is too little action, for a thriller there is not enough suspense, and for horror there is not enough sense of fear. There are explicit scenes showing naked male and female bodies, but there are not so many of them that one could call this movie 'erotic'. The picture seems detached from itself. The same goes for all the characters on the screen. All of this is specifically confusing when watching it.
But the movie knows exactly what it wants to focus your attention on. Violence.
There's plenty of violence in this movie. senseless and bloody.
The main villains of the movie are Nazi bikers. The most grotesque and violent gang I've ever seen in a movie. Drunk and cheerful, they laughingly shoot and slaughter innocent people. No matter who, no matter why. For nothing. With all of this, it's striking that no one tries to stop them at all. Is there no law enforcement in this movie's universe? You only hear the word “police” once in the whole movie. And there's not a single cop in the movie.
Apparently, it's the complete lack of law enforcement that makes our protagonist start to take revenge at the beginning of the movie. Hal - a well-off young man, returning with his girlfriend from dancing is attacked by Nazi bikers. He himself is beaten up and the girl is raped. From that moment and begins an endless, bloody kaleidoscope of deaths.
And for all the ambiguity of this movie, I believe it has its own, fairly clear theme. Revenge. This picture shows that even for the most just ( but cruel ) revenge, there will be a price to pay. One way or another. The cycle of cruelty will end only when all participants of this cycle pay for their ruthlessness.
So what can I ultimately say about 'Mad Foxes'? It's one of the most violent, depressing and devastating movies I've ever seen in my life. And I love it.
