The banter begins right from the opening credits: “We apologize for any errors in the credits; those responsible have already been fired.” And the visual banter also begins from the very first frames: the king jumps around the lands of England, while his faithful assistant imitates the sound of hooves with coconuts. And so on and so forth! The dialogues are also hilarious: a conversation about whether swallows from Africa could have brought these coconuts, followed by a peasant talking about politics in the country.
Interestingly, even though the film is from 1975, it looks quite “fresh.” Few of my friends can watch films from thirty years ago, but they enjoyed watching this one!
They make fun of everything: history, films, stereotypes, character types, literature, people, politics. Just look at the “Trojan rabbit”!
It's the usual grotesque (A Million Years B.C., etc.), but incredibly cute, lighter somehow. Refined. I don't really like modern films with this kind of humor, but Monty is really funny!
And yet, the film is free of vulgarity and the toilet humor so familiar to viewers. At the same time, the authors did not shy away from showing blood on screen, but this did not make the film cruel.
The film is really funny and you want to show it to your friends!
