As usual, I had heard about this film quite a long time ago and, of course, hadn't seen it. I never got around to it, and its subject matter doesn't come up very often, let's say, “on the air.” Nevertheless, I set aside an evening specifically for this film, and to be honest, I really liked it. I'll say right away that I haven't read any other reviews yet, so I'm sharing my very first impressions of the film.
But let's get back to the film, which sucks you into its plot like a whirlpool. You literally catch and grasp all the details and nuances on the fly. Although the world of these programs is very different from our usual world, nevertheless, all the meanings raised in this film are completely devoted to the outside world. It is very human and filled with the most archetypal themes of man himself, here you have the Father, the Son, the Feuding Brothers, Adam and Eve, etc. In general, I think it is obvious that there are many references to the Bible and the whole plot almost copies the first lines of the Old Testament. But this film, if not reinterpreting, then certainly brings something new and unique to the table, which on the one hand is always necessary, but at the same time should not be overdone. In my opinion, the film turned out to be very original, definitely unexpected and fresh for its time.
And if we return to the title of this review, then yes, the film gives more than you expect, and that is its strength. I don't even know what else to add, but I advise everyone to watch this film, as I did. Alone, quietly, and with concentration.
Separately, of course, I would like to thank the musical accompaniment, which is in no way inferior to the film and very appropriately sets the mood of the film. By the way, it was only because of the duo Daft Punk that I watched this film.
