The Good, the Bad, the Weird 4K 2008

“I'm too tired to work on the project report right now. I need to relax. I'm going to go buy a DVD,” I said, turning off my computer, putting on my jacket, and heading to the nearest DVD store. I wanted to watch something spring-like, cheerful, something that would give me a boost of energy. The first disc I picked up was Harvey Milk, which makes sense: I hadn't seen the film for which Sean Penn won an Oscar. But my second choice was more than strange. Maybe I liked the cover, or maybe it was because the film was a comedy, but most likely I was very curious about how they could make a “western” in Korea. With this question in mind, I sat down to watch the film...

The beginning of the film... The first act, a bang on the table, disconnects you from the outside world and throws you into this world of the Wild... um... no, the Wild East. And this East was in no way inferior to the days of the cowboys, and in many ways surpassed it.

In these two hours, everything you can imagine happens. Shootouts are followed by funny dialogues, which in turn are followed by funny episodes, which give way to blood... The director's magnificent work makes these changes unexpected, and therefore you never cease to be surprised throughout the entire film.

This film has something of Guy Ritchie and Clint Eastwood about it. And this mixture has created one of the best films I have ever seen...

So what if the main characters' faces are clean-shaven and their costumes are always immaculate, even though they're covered in dirt and dust? So what if the “good guy” fights against an entire army, like in the days of Stallone? It's more like a joke on Hollywood, and it's nothing but fun.

The film is shot according to all the rules of a western, but there is something in it that Western films have been lacking...

The actors are magnificent. They embody classic character types. Each is the best in his own way. The actions of just one crazy character make you laugh more than the performances of all the actors in many comedies.
