The film is the second part and a continuation of the previous one. That is, it's the same old story with AI and saving the world from a hypothetical nuclear threat. To do this, they need to find the source code of the evil program on a sunken submarine (which leads to a very long, boring, and epic scene of Hunt wandering around this very submarine), and then lure the nasty computer virus into a trap and destroy it with computer poison. Remember, don't pay attention to the lack of logic in what's happening or the violation of any laws of physics or the universe. It's Ethan's magic! The second super-epic and very drawn-out action scene will be Hunt's chase after the human supervillain Gabriel on cornfields. The finale, of course, will be a very long, epic, slobbery, and meaningful scene, suggesting another sequel.
The film has clearly lost its momentum and is no longer carrying the plot, but it can still entertain with its idiocy and unrealistic special effects. With a giant budget of 400 million rubles and a good start, the film grossed only 598 million. At the same time, they write that in order to break even, it was necessary to gross about 800 million. So, it is definitely a failure. At the same time, the film received good ratings and reviews. The creators announced that the series was the final installment, which may be correct. It seems that the franchise has outlived its usefulness. Of course, no one is canceling spin-offs, for example. In any case, the Mission series is iconic as a good example of expensive, spectacular blockbusters built on visuals and special effects.
