The sequel gives fans of bloody, brutal trash action movies the unadulterated joy that this genre should provide. With a perfect running time of 85 minutes, excellent pacing and drive, blood and guts... minimal dialogue and maximum action. You don't even need a translation here, because there are maybe ten phrases in the whole movie that are spoken with the trademark “Soviet accent.”
The director took into account all the mistakes he made in his first film, which was rather boring and, apart from a couple of fights at the beginning, not particularly enjoyable. The increased budget was put to good use - there is plenty of action here. The first 40 minutes are basically Mad Max 2, with a chase on a truck against almost all branches of the military, from armored motorcyclists (who for some reason forget to use grenades, but let's not get into those details) to planes with spectacular and juicy explosions and shootouts.
By the way, the technology here is used in a very entertaining way, with imagination and spark. In general, it feels like the director decided to let go of the brakes completely (the right decision) and took a cue from his Indian colleagues, because the further you go, the more fun it gets (don't forget the scene with the tank). And when it comes to the final act, that's when the juicy black humor really kicks in, embellishing the action and making you laugh out loud at such harsh jokes — another big plus for the director.
There are three actors here (the rest are extras for killing) and all three are immortal Finns.
Jorma Tommila, Stephen Lang aka Yeagor Dragunov in combat fatigues, and Richard Brake aka KGB OFFICER - all are not lacking in charisma.
They speak little and to the point, getting the job done.
Overall, as a fan of the genre, I was satisfied. Everything was done by the book and as it should be. It's a powerful, absurd, brutal, and bloody action movie. That's what prevented the first film from being like this. But well done—they made up for it in the sequel.
