I am sure that if it weren't for Mel Gibson's participation in this film, I would hardly have heard of it. Actually, like most viewers who managed to see this film.
As we have all become accustomed to, Gibson has been very fond of participating in highly questionable projects and various second-rate action films in recent years. This time, we see him in the role of a retired detective (how original, right?), but not in an outright forgettable action film, but in a teen or perhaps even family horror film that tries in every way to be at least a little bit like Stranger Things.
There is a quiet island where the main character spends his summer vacation with his friends. Of course, they ride bicycles in the setting of quiet American towns that seem to have come straight out of the pages of Stephen King's novels. At some point, something strange begins to happen to his peers, but the stupid adults still don't believe in the mysticism of what is happening. Therefore, the heroes team up with Gibson to figure out the situation and help their friends.
It would be wrong to call this film entirely childish, as there are some moments, some “near-screamers” in the film, that can be a little scary. However, in all other respects, it is a very typical and predictable story, a kind of adventure-investigation that is not particularly memorable. But it is worth noting that it is not annoying either.
