An attempt at a postmodern interpretation of the eternal theme of vampires in mass and pop culture. That's right, an attempt, because the film falls short of realizing its full potential. Almost the entire plot is based on the idea that “now we will tell you the whole truth about the children of the night.” But apart from the final moment, we are not told anything particularly original. Yes, vampires don't care about religion, or they can walk in daylight and be reflected in mirrors. However, this is by no means an original transcription of the classic vampire ‘code’, but rather its reversal in the vast majority of cases. The young director of this film focused all his efforts not on the plot (which already has too many inconsistencies and unnecessary twists), but on the editing. The editing turned out to be flashy, fashionable by the standards of the late 1990s, and... excessive. It remains unclear to me whether the filmmakers were trying to turn the film into a 100% postmodern concept in the spirit of Scream, or to make it a kind of art-house vampire action movie. Neither of these ideas came to fruition. Yes, the actors either overact or underact, which further reinforces the overall feeling of inappropriate grotesqueness.
