Captain Lam is an aging police officer who is just a stone’s throw away from retirement, but he doesn’t want to leave without solving a high-profile case. His sister asks him to help sort out the love life of her nephew, Buffalo an American of Chinese descent who has come to Hong Kong to find a bride. Buffalo falls in love with a girl named Ellen, who accidentally witnesses a murder and just like that, the adventure begins.
Now Lam, his nephew, and the terrified witness find themselves in the crosshairs of a ruthless arms-dealing gang. The uncle is forced to throw himself into the thick of the conflict not for his career, but simply because he has nowhere else to go.
To be honest, this is noticeably weaker than the first installment. Danny Lee is a solid actor, but he’s no match for Chow Yun-fat’s charisma. Conan Lee was injured during filming his fall from a lamppost was actually incorporated into the movie and he barely fights at all. The script is loose, and the first hour drags on sluggishly. The film is saved by the finale, where the action finally kicks into high gear.
