The film is simply about people. The “action” takes place in a small shop called “Everything for $5.10,” where several sisters gather and recount the “highly dramatic” stories of their lives. The film is a worthy work by Altman. Today, it comes across as almost surreal. Although, in essence, it’s probably just a typical 1982 problem film.
The film is greatly enhanced by Cher’s brilliant performance; this was her feature film debut, following two unsuccessful attempts to make a film with her own money alongside her husband, Sonny.
