The reason this film is so highly regarded is quite simple—as they say, it struck a chord. There are some movies that touch a personal chord within you, making them a classic for you alone, forever.
The indescribably beautiful Elizabeth Shue, the multifaceted thief Kilmer, tormented by ghosts of the past, and the devilishly brutal Valery Nikolaev. That was enough for me. Moreover, the action in the film takes a back seat, leaving the characters alone with their feelings, which are conveyed very sincerely and touchingly.

To become a saint, one must perform three miracles.
