A strikingly underrated cannibal-themed movie.
Once again it is unclear why, as in the case of Umberto Lenzi's 'Eaten Alive', this picture by Ruggero Deodato was included by Russian distributors in the cycle under the general title 'Cannibal Hell', although the first Hell was filmed only 3 years after this one. But come on. Let's go directly to the tape.
Apparently in those years, the director had a manic desire to make such movies that the audience went frostbite from viewing. And he considered the theme of cannibalism to be the most suitable for this purpose.
This picture is only slightly inferior to his universally recognized best work ('Cannibal Hell') and that only in terms of moralizing and a sense of documentary. Otherwise, the picture is no worse in makeup and bloody effects and no less cruel: many scenes will cause the viewer such a sense of disgust and fear that the creators of most modern horrors will be nervously smoking in the side. All the actors played very well. It is undoubtedly worth noting also very good music and excellent direction by Deodato.
The movie is about the human spirit, about the will, about the love of life. It is filmed as truthfully as possible, without pathos and pathetics, just like life itself.
Fans of the horror genre and the theme of cannibalism should not miss it.
