Whit Stillman was able to attract to the project such selectivity as Kate Beckinsale and Chloe Sevigny. The main role in the movie played a beautiful Kate Beckinsale, she perfectly embodied the image of an intrigant Susan Vernon. Morfydd Clark brilliantly coped with the role of humble daughter of the main character. Bright scenery, stylish costumes of that era and subtle British humor make the film truly a masterpiece... After husband's death, Lady Susan has financial problems. But the widow isn't going to grieve or stand idle for long. A beautiful woman and her daughter go in search of a new rich husband. Also, Susan is going to find a worthy groom for her demure daughter.
