There are almost no downsides to the film; it keeps you on your toes almost from the very beginning to the end credits.
The actor who plays the main character is Miles Teller - I would not say that he plays a masterpiece, but in some moments it really is.
And so everything: that directing, that acting - everything is gorgeous.
We should also compliment Jay K. Simmons, who plays his best role and every moment with him is just great.
The main character is a guy named Andrew, who is ready for anything to become a popular drummer and gain fame. He is accepted into the orchestra, but the teacher, whom Simmons plays, has very strict methods. He is a perfectionist and wants everything to be perfect. He hardens his students by always shouting at them and cursing. For example, he may yell at a person and accuse him of being fake, only to make sure that the student understands the case and understands that he is not fake.
Although in the original the film is called "Whiplash" (this was the name of one of the first and main jazz compositions in the film, and it also means "hit with a whip", which hints to us that the teacher's methods in the film are quite tough and metaphorically resemble a blow with a whip) , in dubbing it could still be translated well. The name in Russia reflects the obsession of the main characters with their cause.
After the first viewing, I was incredibly impressed and at least a few more hours walked away from the film.
In general, this is a great movie that you should definitely watch. It will not be liked only by those who do not like intense films, where there are a lot of shouts and curses. Also, if you have such an opportunity - watch in the original with subtitles, because the acting is amazing.
