After being heavily trained as a cinematographer in classic action films such as Die Hard and Lethal Weapon 3, now director Jan de Bont decided to shoot his version of the hurricane action adventure.
Having withstood all the laws of the genre of classic action: a charismatic villain (part-time offended in the service of a former policeman), a handsome hero who usually saves everyone and is always in the spotlight, the police, who occasionally help the hero, but mostly serve only as bystanders , (well, a couple of classic tricks like a bomb with a timer). Pure classics !!!
One of the few reasons why you want to revisit "Speed" over and over again is, of course, the quality of the picture. With a budget of 30 million, the director managed to shoot the film one hundred percent. Crazy chases, stunningly beautiful explosions and an atmosphere of ever-increasing tension that does not let go until the very end of the film.
Everything is really done at the highest level. Here you have the cool acting of Reeves, Hopper and Bullock, great directorial debut by Jan de Bont, great music, cool visuals and sound. The only thing the creators really went overboard with was jumping over the unfinished part of the bridge. Although this action looked very impressive.
Having absorbed all the elements of what should be in a real action movie, "Speed" rightfully bears the title of one of the most exciting films of our time. Dynamic, spectacular and vibrant cinema.
Cool action movie.
