1984, in the north of our country, the deepest secret well in the world is hastily closed. The reason is simple: at a depth of 12 kilometers, inexplicable sounds were recorded, similar to the screams of many heart-rending voices beating in agony. There is a rumor that a hitherto unknown virus was found there, samples of which need to be taken by a research group, bravely descending into the very depths of the mine to meet the frightening unknown ...
A Russian horror film, clearly influenced by The Thing, while mixing a dark thriller with elements of body horror. It is worth explaining that the tape is based on real rumors around the Kola well, which was mothballed in the 80s. There were also references in this story about human screams from the bottom of the mine, and an allegedly discovered unknown monster that crawled out.
The film can be praised for adhering to all the traditions of the genre: a killer fungus for humanity, a terrible monster biomass, a feeling of claustrophobia, delicious and at the same time disgusting elements of body transformation, a crushing rattling soundtrack. Nostalgia for old horror films about all kinds of monsters that we love so much since childhood immediately piles on.
But still, the tape tries to grasp several topics at once, without revealing each of them in full: the love line, the Soviet system, the motivation of some heroes. They can't scold the tape for this - with a modest budget of only about two million dollars, the film crew seems to have squeezed out the maximum possible, giving the world a Russian version of "Something".
Moral: after such stories, even going down to the basement for a jar of jam, you start taking a gun with you just in case.
As a result, an ambitious horror movie, one might say the birth of a body horror in Russia. He can be given a chance, especially fans of "Carpenter's creature", the game "Dead Space" and Cronenberg.
