In 2023, Disney Pixar released a trailer for a new animated film about space adventures called Elio. Since then, the film's release has been postponed several times. Finally, it saw the light of day, and of course, I watched it.
It's the story of a boy named Elio (Jonas Kibrea). He is an orphan, and his aunt Olga (Zoe Saldana) takes care of him, but she is not quite right in the head. If this sounds familiar, you will soon understand why.
Elio, who is desperately trying to find his place in the world, accidentally looks beyond Earth and finds himself kidnapped by aliens. There he meets a friend named Glordan (Remy Agerly). If this reminds you of Lilo & Stitch, it's because it is.
In fact, the film also reminds me of Galaxy Quest, but I won't say why, so as not to spoil the experience.
I wonder why Disney loves to make its heroes orphans so much? Perhaps it helps viewers empathize with the characters more. After all, unhappy parents and tragedies that happen off-screen add emotional depth.
The first half of the film is a good Pixar movie, and the second half turns into an exciting space adventure. The relationship between Elio and Glordan is the heart of the film, and they are really cute. The visual effects are impressive in their brightness and detail. Rob Simonson's music perfectly complements the picture.
The film does a good job of showing why people are so fascinated by the idea of extraterrestrial life. In these tense times, we need a film this gentle and kind. Although Elio doesn't offer anything new and can be predictable, it's still a beautiful film with an important message. Remember, you are not alone.
