Labors are large piloted robots invented for construction work. Some criminals use labors for their own purposes. To combat this type of crime, a special police unit has been organized that uses special combat labors.
I recently watched an anime by director Mamoru Oshii called Angel's Egg. For me, this anime definitely deserves a 10 out of 10. Shortly before that, I watched the excellent anime Ghost in the Shell, which has cult status in the cyberpunk genre.
Another creation by Mamoru Oshii, “Future Police,” somehow caught my attention. It is very unpopular. Overall, I have yet to see what this anime could do to deserve such popularity. But it's not bad.
Unfortunately, all the characters in the anime film are boring. Their personalities are not even very distinct. As a result, I didn't even remember who they were or what their names were. The characters are simple, bland, and their images are straightforward. They could only have been memorable to me thanks to a wonderful story, which is not present here. The plot of this film is like a drawn-out episode of a mediocre TV series. Fortunately, watching this anime wasn't torture for me. It's a rare case where nothing in an uninteresting film annoyed me. There's just nothing interesting in this anime.
As in other films by Mamoru Oshii, I enjoyed the excellent artwork. It is simple but very pleasant. Watching the battles between the Labors was a pleasure. When there were moments of everyday life for the police, the artwork of the city was a delight to the eyes. It was no worse than in Ghost in the Shell. The music is also not bad.
I'm not disappointed, I just wanted to see something else from this director. Besides, I love Evangelion. I thought I might see something similar in Future Police. There are two more parts to come. It will be interesting to check them out.
