To be honest, I was expecting something completely different, and literally until the very end, questions like "what am I watching at all, why is this all?" Were spinning in my head. And at the end, literally, an insight comes, as if small pieces of a puzzle add up to a clear picture. Of course, I can't say what the director really wanted to tell, but for me this film has definitely become a tale of honor and dignity. And not about some kind of "knightly" honor, but about a completely ordinary, universal human. This is something that is difficult to recognize and impossible to measure, something that cannot be taught, something that manifests itself only in certain circumstances, and each person must himself feel the need for these things. It is always an internal struggle with oneself. And how important this is, is perfectly demonstrated to us by David Lowry through the story of Gawain. Rather, through a series of episodes from his life, he is clearly demonstrated as thirsting for knightly glory, but having only a vague idea of honor and dignity, Gawain appears before the viewer as a complete insignificance, which he is even without realizing it. However, no, the further the plot moves (it must be admittedly very boring), the more clearly Gawain understands that he, as a person, as a person, lacks something, something very important. That is why, despite his cowardice and other shortcomings, he continues the path into the unknown, to probable death, in the hope of finding an answer.
The disadvantages of this picture really can be attributed to a very sluggish narration and "strange" editing. The excellent visual component and the decent acting of the actors do not help at all, throughout the film you have to struggle with sleep. But it is quite possible that this was intended, so as not to distract people with all sorts of tinsel.
Many are trying to find here a connection and references to the original source, to the classic story of Gawain. However, I think this is inappropriate in this case. And the fact that this is definitely an art house does not mean at all that you need to look for a jumble of hidden meanings. But the fact that a large number of people who watched the film did not see any sense at all in what was happening on the screen is really sad ...
