There are three things that distinguish this tape. First, the incomparable Kate Beckinsale. She's wrapped in leather and latex again, she's dangerous again, she's ready to fight again. This Englishwoman with an aristocratic profile back in 2003 was able to prove that she could be an action heroine. And to this day it remains one of the dominants in this genre. And all thanks to the role of Celine, both beautiful and terrible. By the way, the fourth part is almost entirely resting on the fragile shoulders of the actress, because if it were not for the iconic heroine, then this whole franchise would not be so successful. And it is very pleasant to look at Kate in a chic black suit, doing unthinkable somersaults and gutting her enemies or paced rhythmically to dynamic music. Undoubtedly, the main and main decoration of the film.
Secondly, one cannot fail to note the visual component of the picture. The R rating is presented in all its glory. In places, the film is like an anatomy lesson or a surgical operation. So much blood, torn out entrails, dismembered heads, severed limbs, perhaps, no film from the franchise remembers. And the methodical cutting of the skin with a scalpel, and even more so. But in 'Another World' it looks. Really looks. And it is fully consistent with the topic. A movie about the confrontation between vampires and werewolves should be bloody. Added to the rating are gorgeous fights, the correct use of the slo-mo effect and excellent lycans that no longer resemble dolls, but really look like monsters in the flesh.
And thirdly, Underworld: Awakening came out as an incredibly stylish film. Yes, this tape has its own dark style, reminiscent of street gothic. And, perhaps, this is one of the most significant advantages of the film. Celine's world matches her. Gloomy, dangerous, disturbing and scary. And she is organic in this world. Although, perhaps, the main style of the film was given by the 3D effect. Since the days of 'Avatar' there has not been such high quality 3D, which would also look out of place. By the way, the tape is not stuffed with them, everything is in moderation. And when a lycan's head protrudes from the screen, snapping its teeth in its slobbering mouth, it is really possible to believe that this monster is trying to get to you, the viewer.
But along with the pluses, the film also has significant minuses. The plot is banal, very banal, primitive and simple. It is easily guessed and miscalculated from the first minute, is characterized by a linear narrative, in some places it tries to break through on emotions, but suffers a crushing defeat in this attempt, because 'Another World: Awakening' is, after all, first and foremost an action game. The villains are static and boring, many characters are simply superfluous, while Celine is bulletproof and, in principle, not killable, which is also striking as an essential 'joint' of the creators. On the other hand, Kate Beckinsale was able to make her character quite alive and even somewhat humanize. Still, you won't be full of action alone. And I would like to mention India Aili, the daughter of 'Juliet' Olivia Hussey. The girl is very beautiful and natural even in such an inhuman role.
