"The Kid" is the title of a new western that managed to make its way into the domestic, albeit very limited, box office. And even though it is only shown in small venues and not everywhere, it is still a worthy film.
What is interesting. The picture was directed by a fairly famous actor Vincent d'Onofrio. Ethan Hawke took one of the leading roles, as Sheriff Pat Garret, and the role of the then widely known in fairly narrow circles young gangster Billy the Kid was played by Chris Pratt.
The name of the movie "The Kid", probably, is a play on the nickname of the bandit himself, as well as the designation of one of the central characters - a teenage boy, who by the will of fate met on his way Kid the Kid and his persecutor and executioner.
In general, this whole story is a story about what you see through the eyes of a boy. Still a boy, but soon to be a man. This is not a new technique, and it has been used many times in gangster and war movies. And in this particular case, it was appropriate. The guy, suffering at first an enthusiastic perception of the gangster reality of the Wild West, gets into too serious and terrible trouble ... There are situations in which a man is ready to accept help from anyone. But he will only be responsible for the choice he makes himself. And that's what this movie is about. By the way, I would compare it to another excellent drama western that was released not so long ago - the movie "Strictly to the West".
Also, I just loved the acting of Ethan Hawke. His shirriff is perhaps a little more noble than he was in reality. So what. Basically, we have before us another incarnation of another justice rider galloping from afar. It's a great role!
Chris Pratt... He tried too, no doubt about it.
And so... Cloaks, revolvers, Winchesters, gallows. Rugged men with mustaches. Remember "Tombstone!" But The Kid is also quite a decent movie. The ballad of a sheriff and a bandit. And growing up. And what a pity that in that small auditorium I watched it proudly alone...
