Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich have produced something called 'Independence Day'. The commercial success of this picture is provided only by special effects and 'grand patriotism of Americanism'. The Russians are sitting in some partisan booth next to a temple and two fighter jets - it's called the General Staff. Idiots of all nations obey the great and resourceful Americans! Naturally, nowhere in the world has guessed the idea of introducing a virus into the aliens' main computer, which in itself is complete nonsense. Aliens who communicate through telepathy think and act slower than humans, no way! Smith's character quickly forgets his friend's death and smokes a cigarette over the body of the big-headed freak. The president, having lost his wife, celebrates his victory with a bang. The spaceship in "Area 51" easily obeys the will of the earthlings, like a real fighter jet.
And everything would be alright if the genre of this movie were: comedy, but the film pretends to be completely serious.
Once again I should mention the visual effects - I have no complaints about them and they are the only things that justify watching this movie.
