A fairy tale about a lonely girl, Alatea, a guru in the field of literature. One day she gets her hands on a vessel with a Djinn inside, but the experience-wise lady is in no hurry to make her three wishes, for she knows how such stories usually end. Alateya is waiting for an amazing conversation about the eras and civilizations that Jinn has seen, about his heartbreaking stories that allow you to look at the world in a completely new way...
A bittersweet contemporary tale of the gravity of being, where the main characters have an intimate one-on-one conversation in a hotel room that blossoms to the size of the universe with a titanic sweep. In these technological times, stupefied by gadgets, humanity has devalued knowledge about the creation of the world - myths and legends have become mere fodder for superhero comic books - but a chance fantasy encounter with Alatea will bring some magic and wonder back into a soulless world.
The plot builds on the dialogues of the scholarly maiden and the tan Genie, imbued with drama, tragedy and rash actions. The magical spirit's stories seem to be filled with typical mistakes made regularly in life and as if drawing one fat line that all people are selfish and capable of betrayal. The meeting of two disappointed and lonely characters is also illustrated here: one has a lifetime of disappointment, while the other has been stepping on the same rake over and over again for several millennia.
The film is philosophical, it makes you think about a lot of things, but it is a little superficial and straightforward, which may be a plus for those who do not like to dig into the symbolism. But the director has deduced the natural axiom that all desire is for its own fulfillment of needs without globality or benefit to others. This is the whole point of human beings.
Moral: Before you start to make love to Djinn, think about the endless number of his exes.
All in all an interesting fairy tale parable with some thought-provoking after-viewing, but truthfully with a skewed and typical final act.
