It can be frustrating when you suddenly don't like a good movie. But this was just that case. What was happening on the screen didn't resonate with me, emotionally or intellectually. The acting, the visuals (in black and white and in color), the dialogues and monologues, the music, the atmosphere of the movie - everything seemed unnatural, unnecessary and wrong to me.
An angel's love for a woman, making him human, could have been a source of really serious conflict, both psychological and interpersonal (inter angelic?). But there are no conflicts in the film, just an ordinary, banal story (as banal as an angel story can be).
...And so he became human and found his love. Wonderful, I'm happy for him. So what's next?
The only bright spot in the whole movie for me was Peter Falk. He's the only one who somehow makes what's happening on the screen come alive. Everything else seemed uselessly uninteresting to me. Although it would be very silly to deny that Wim Wenders made a good film. He really did. But this good film is clearly not for me. So I'm sorry.
