The plot of this magnificent picture is built on the everyday work of seven highly professional cowboys to protect a destitute Mexican village from a gang of local outlaws. Since all the village's money would barely be enough to pay even one cowboy, the operation is performed almost out of love for the art, which bribes the viewers in no small way.
It should be said that shortly before that, the great Akira Kurosawa had made a Japanese film, Seven Samurai, based on the same subject. But with all due respect I must say that today that film is difficult to watch: it has long lines, sluggish plot development. In "The Magnificent Seven", he also acted as a screenwriter and John Sturz achieved the desired effect: he made an exciting movie with dynamic developments, spectacular scenes and deeply developed characters. Each of the seven has its own unique look, history, fighting techniques. The greatest success, of course, was in this film with Yul Brynner, who played the leader of the seven. But, truth be told, the weak roles do not come to mind - even the crowd was at a level.
The movie is constructed in such a way that the viewer feels nothing for the characters, and the plot twists and turns, the colorful picture and the psychologically rich episodes do not allow to tear yourself away from the screen for a minute.
