The crew of the USS Enterprise detects a positronic signal on a planet near the Neutral Zone, where they find a B-4, less perfect than Data, a prototype android created by Dr. Soong. So begins a day for Starfleet, another danger looming over Earth and, most importantly, 116 more minutes of quality sci-fi enjoyment for you and me. It's no secret that Star Trek is a quality and exemplary sci-fi, perhaps with only one competitor, "Star Wars", but the universe of Star Trek is huge and well thought out in detail, and every fan dreams of trying romulan rum. With each movie, we get a little closer to this world, which is one version of our future.
"Star Trek: Retribution" is probably one of the most exciting movies in the Star Trek universe if you don't count the last part, which came out in 2009. The tenth movie absorbed all the experience, plot and intrigues of the previous parts, leaving all the minuses behind. All the unnecessary moments and things which could drag out the movie were left out of the picture, and as a result we got a new and dynamic movie track which holds a proper pace from the beginning and till the end of the movie. We also got more action and beautiful scenes. Fans may not like it, but I think the franchise has benefited from it. There are also more storylines and more time devoted to the other characters. Finally, an expressive antagonist appeared, whose story is also fascinating, and, what is the most important, the film left room for drama. From all that one may conclude that the movie succeeded and evolved, which cannot but make the fans happy.
The quality of special effects and soundtrack also reached a new, sufficiently high technological level. Of course, we must understand that the movie was made in 2002, but in comparison with the previous part it is a great leap forward for Star Trek, and unfortunately the last film about the adventures of the brave captain Jean Luc Picard. But don't despair, as the franchise was rebooted in 2009 and the Star Trek universe continues to grow and evolve.
