The elite unit G.I. Joe is considered a professional authority when it comes to protecting the American people. One day it falls victim to an unpredictable attack that kills many of its members. G.I. Joe – The Rise of Cobra (2009) from screenwriter, director and producer Stephen Sommers (The Scorpion King, Van Helsing) is just a great, exciting and action-packed piece of entertaining. While Sommers still squashing the bejesus out of the snare drum we enjoy great special effects, sonic weapons, futuristic suits, and nano-mites. As the old saying goes, a fool and his money are easily parted. Still, the film turned out exactly the way as we have expected it to be. Great action scenes with soldiers stationed in Kazakhstan (it, too, was met with the sound of one hand clapping) Captain Duke Hauser (Channing Tatum) and his partner Weems alias Ripcord (Marlon Wayans) and great effects. However, we found it a bit too long at 118 minutes, so that it was sometimes boring for a while. Otherwise, General Clayton Abernathy (Dennis Quaid) and his international team deliver great entertainment – now on 4K Blu-ray. You can also watch it on VHS.
