When I was a kid, I sometimes saw old movies of this franchise on TV, but for some reason it didn't fascinate me then. Then, a few times I saw Burton's movie in full, but it didn't impress me, not even the ending, even though I was a rather impressionable child. So finally, with the release of the new trilogy, I discovered this world. If to describe in brief, I consider the whole trilogy one of the best sai fi franchises in the history of cinematography. They set the bar pretty high, skillfully combining high technology with excellent drama. And I was skeptical about the news of a new trilogy, especially when I found out who the director would be.
I liked Wes Ball's The Maze Runner, because it was the peak of teen dystopias and I was a teenager, but if you evaluate it now, it's not bad, but it's still just a regular entertainment blockbuster. Because of this, I didn't have much faith in the new movie. The plot is about a generation of new apes, their lives many years after the finale of “War of the Planet of the Apes”. “Eagle” tribe of apes live in peace and quiet, until they are not invaded by other more aggressive apes and deprive them of their home, the main character will have to go on a journey to save his people, and on the way he will meet other heroes and challenges.
Heroes in the new picture are also interesting and diverse, of course there is the main character, who must pass his arch and change not only the course of history, but also his fate, there are comedy and nice characters and just like in the past parts, there is a good villain, of course, he is not the Colonel from the last part, but as for the first part of the new trilogy villain worthy and very colorful. In this part they didn't forget about people, they didn't die out completely for so many years, and the heroine Freya Allan is also important for the plot and her relationship with the main character is interesting to watch.
One of the main components of this franchise - visuals - is also present in the movie. The visuals are as good as in the previous installments, and in some places they are even better. Especially successful decision I consider the use of handheld camera, in action moments it gave dynamics, and in dramatic moments to the realism of what was happening, as if I was there with them, I did not doubt for a second that the painted heroes are real.
In the end we can say that the beginning of the new franchise succeeded. The movie doesn't look like popcorn bubblegum, it “has weight”, especially against the backdrop of what is now mostly coming out with an abundance of computer graphics. It has a long chronometrach and it feels like that, the movie is not afraid to rush the events, showing the world, the characters and their everyday life that the audience would be imbued with it. Of course it did not do without a very interesting plot for the sequel, but the movie and with it looks with completed story arcs. And I will now wait for the sequel with great desire.
