Borderlands 4K 2024

While watching the movie, many times I got the feeling that I was looking at some work from the 2010s that just hasn't passed the test of time. That's how I would describe the film adaptation of the game “Borderlands”. It's a story that embraces the spirit of action-adventure movies from the past decade or even the decade before that. You can predict almost everything in it, even if you haven't gone through the original game, from the story tropes to the humor jokes. And the thing is, almost everything in this movie has been in dozens, if not hundreds of movies before it

It's such a sterile adaptation that you can involuntarily start falling asleep about halfway through (tested). It's as if the creators are deliberately going for an average result, without trying to jump above their heads or at least experiment a little. There are no interesting artistic techniques inherent in movie adaptations, nor exciting wrestling. But what spoils the impression the most is the insanely archaic images of the main characters. And the reason is probably that the source material is more than ten years old. I won't say anything about it, because this is not a review of the game, but I think that if such a film adaptation was released in 2014, when Guardians of the Galaxy was in full swing, it would have looked much more modest against their background, but still would have been included in the then still fresh wave of blockbusters about anti-heroes with madness in their eyes.

Nowadays all these characters look like a relic of the past. Think about it: a cute little girl who likes to blow things up and kill - wow, what an unusual image, I've never seen anything like that (Wansday, Gertrude from I Hate Fairyland, maybe Harley Quinn, etc.). A crazy and little-talking jock with a good heart (there are even more examples here, from the Hulk to Frankenstein), and so on. And it would be fine if these images were somehow revealed in a new way, but no, in the movie they are unrealistically one-sided and resemble a simple tinsel, which should at least a little fascinate the viewer. Perhaps it is the interaction of all such types on one screen that we have not yet seen, but they do not become more interesting. And it is because of the predictability that comes from such characters, we begin to literally get tired of the movie!

Of course, you can see some contrasting episodes with drama, a relatively good ending, or even quite nice moments, but for the most part it's a very tedious spectacle, which seems to have been shot for a tick, and also incredibly overexposed, for ten years.
