In my opinion, the franchise became obsolete a long time ago, spoofed itself and ate its plot from about the 6th series onwards. There is no creepy atmosphere, which is inherent in the first dilogy - poor scriptwriters are already out of their skin, with each part inventing more and more inventive sadistic trials... forgetting about the plot... and forgetting about the plot.
The 9th film, Revelations, seemed to have put the nail in the coffin forever, mercilessly endangering and spoofing this wonderful narrative.... chubby Pinhead, oh my God, was that a joke or what?!
It seemed like the finish line, it couldn't get any worse... and when I heard about the release of the 10th film, ‘The Verdict’, with the screenwriter of the previous film, I thought the worst was yet to come. Before watching, deliberately stocked with tissues from tears, I expected to see again another shameful series of my favourite film.... but how wrong I was!
Hellraiser 10: The Verdict is indeed a film with an interesting plot and intriguing moments! Looking back at the previous episodes, the plot here is quite lucid and eye-catching. The murder and trial scenes look enticing and tasty, the thrashiness is of quite a high quality, you can't believe it's a $500K film.
A cop who investigates a case of gruesome murders gets trapped by Senobites from the underworld. Does he have sins for which he will deserve a tormented ordeal? He manages to get away, however as in the film ‘Destination’, there is no escaping justice. As in other parts, the hero will offer the Cenobites other souls in place of himself... how will they behave this time? It's an interesting spectacle.
Most intriguing is the ending, is it a hint of the end of the series? Not clear... and, as it seems to me (for fans), quite a hard blow, but at the same time gratitude for this film - it is really made with a soul.
