The great Spielberg's first movie for the wide screen, and it turned out to be (not the screen and not Spielberg, but the movie) very, very NOT 'first-blincomic'. And to be quite frank, I liked the movie. Though there is not something very original and lively, but the atmosphere of this unnecessary hostage-taking of a policeman and the further rather tragic chain of events, and everything is based on a real story, immersed me very much in myself.
Gore-criminals (cool roles of young actors, and their companion at will - a young policeman - a great guy, it's a pity, did not become a star in the future) cause, despite their antisocial behavior, sympathy (from burning to condescending) and only sympathy. But if in Mother America one of her children went against the law, then no matter what, he will be caught up by an aunt with a blindfold and scales in her hands (i.e. justice).
An entertaining script, competent shooting of automobile (well, it can't be called chases) movements, already mentioned above colorful faces, music by Williams, staging by young Spielberg - all this captivates and doesn't let go until the last line of the final credits (they also go over the picture).
The movie is crowned by a caption about the fate of the heroine, and we must admit that everything ended optimistically for her and her child.
