After the highly successful 'The French Connection', William Friedkin returns to the cop movie. I must say, he's making a successful comeback. Friedkin in general can be considered as one of the pioneers in this genre. Thanks to his pictures formed the image of the modern police action movie.
There are no brave cops, honestly doing their duty and constantly poking each other like Gibson and Glover in 'Lethal Weapon', no spectacular shootouts and explosions. The director tried to make the movie extremely realistic. Petersen plays a policeman, whose only meaning of life is revenge for the murder of his partner. For the sake of this he is ready to go even to a crime.
There is also the original villain Defoe, for whom counterfeiting bills is akin to art. Plus an excellent script with a lot of unexpected plot twists and an uncompromising finale. And, of course, we can not fail to mention the magnificent car chase scene, which, in my opinion, turned out no worse than its counterpart in the Oscar-winning 'The French Connection'.
