I always thought that it was the British who would create the best parody of their spy movies. But no, the American-German alliance with a Canadian actor managed to remake the old films of the 60s in such a way that it's a pleasure to watch. They made a serious saga of James Bond show with dance numbers and ten-second breaks a la 'change of scenery'.
At the same time they decided not to complicate the plot. A super agent from the 60's was frozen for 30 years to defeat the insidious Dr. (he graduated from medical school) Evil. However, the new world in 1997 is very unusual for him - no free love, no hallucinogens. All that remains is to chase after the villain, who has conceived another banal plan to destroy the earth ... Ah, yes, you can also try to flirt with your partner, to see if the legendary charm of Austin Powers has weakened.
The picture was filmed in the best traditions of British comedy shows (like 'Benny Hill') and ridicules, of course, the agent and sex symbol Sean Connery and all the films of the franchise with his participation. The result is a memorable image that can't be confused with anything else - glasses, crooked teeth and very questionable attractiveness. What else am I forgetting? Ah, the British tricolor underpants and the Swedish..... ahem. appliance. Oh, and Austin Powers the hypnotist.
The second very striking image of Mike Myers is the very emotional villain Dr. Evil, who always has the last sentence of the movie behind him. Throughout the movie, the actor works with enviable dedication, moving from one image to another, and the operators come up with tricks to insert two characters in one frame.
From other actors I will note Seth Green (very badass kid, the son of Dr. Evil - for the actor this is the first significant appearance on the screen), Michael York (to play Austin's boss for such a venerable performer is like chewing on a seed), Elizabeth Hurley (perfectly chosen to show simultaneously the mind, honor, conscience and sexuality of the Anglo-Saxon nation). Well, and don't miss the occasional appearances of Carrie Fisher, Will Ferrell and Elia Baskin.
A little vulgarity does not harm the movie, although the excess of phallic symbols (the main one is located directly on the hero's chest) can irritate the eye, and the excess of statements such as 'trachudilichno' - the ear. The crown jewel of the movie is the skillful covering of certain places with props, as well as inscriptions and ambiguous names. If you haven't decided whether to watch it or not, I'll give you one more fact - 'Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery' won two MTV Movie Awards (for best dance number and best villain).
