This movie actually has nothing to do with a children's fairy tale. According to the plot, the evil dwarf Rumpelstiltskin finds himself in the 90s of the twentieth century. And he wants to possess the soul of a child, because he has no soul of his own.
Surprisingly, this movie is very similar to “The Terminator” in plot development. Mom saves her son, whom John from an immortal and inanimate dwarf. Oh, and the chases themselves are very similar. First Rumpelstiltskin chases her on a motorcycle with dark glasses, and then on a huge tractor with an explosive trailer. Enjoyed the moment when Rumpelstiltskin smokes a cigar before getting into the truck, and for about three seconds a tune from T-2 plays. Oh, and he dies about the same way as the terminator in the first movie.
Enjoyed a strong performance by Kim Johnston Ulrich, though she had a great role model in Sarah Connor.
Max Grodenchik, who played the role of Rumpelstiltskin is a must see. Every time he gets in the frame, he manages to say quite the line.
“I didn't like the way the future tasted,” he says after getting a broomstick shoved in his mouth. Or when, driving a truck, he quotes Colonel Hannibal from “Team-A,” “I love it when things go according to plan.”
The movie also has flaws, and they are quite serious. Half of the actors involved in minor roles look, to put it mildly, unimportant. There are no memorable special effects either. About the plot was also said - actually rewritten script “Terminator”.
But it should be said, to shoot horror - it is generally a thankless job. Rarely any horror movie has a rating higher than 6. Come up with new ways to scare the viewer or develop the plot in general are able to few.
John Romero in each of his new movies still uses zombies, and Wes Craven Jeddy Krueger, the same happens with other movie maniamaki. The plot doesn't suffer any major changes, only the methods of killing change.
This movie is not banal or passable. It has its own atmosphere, which may lack special effects and sags the plot, but the main character of the picture pleases with his humor. In general, it turned out pretty good.
