If the tape could talk....
...she'd probably sigh: “Ah, another penny slasher.” Oh, yeah. Another one. Does that put Sorority House Massacre in the rank of “Absolute Garbage”? Well, let's say that the conclusion will be hasty - yes, this sample is no different from its kind, but it is quite spectacular (in some places) and has a good number of girls (and a microphone in the upper right corner at 13 minute 50 seconds - well done, editor).
I should mention that the film is very similar to “Blood Party” (which is confirmed by the fact that in the trailer for “Sorority House Massacre” there were shots from“... party”) - similar lighting, setting, local sacrifice (to the eternal flock of girls here their boyfriends are added, but they are spent quickly). So we'll make a comparative analysis.
Plot (yes, I started with an important thing, oh with an important thing...) - a young girl moves into a women's dormitory. Here it should be noted that the heroine constantly sees visions (buttery oil - I know, oxymoron) about her brother, who in his youth and stupidity arranged a party for his family, in the course of which this girl and, in fact, the brother himself (Bobby) survived, who was immediately taken to the asylum. So, long story short, Bobby escaped. And now he's on his way to his native house, which has accidentally been converted into the very dormitory where the protagonist with her girlfriends and boyfriends are going to spend the evening of meetings.
It's not bad, right? The plot is not original, but it's not exactly hackneyed, either - just right for a slasher. However, the local visions of the protagonist intrusively climb into the frame and persistently annoy, although it would seem that they should help the script. But not as much help as hinder - periodic hang-ups of the protagonist begin to irritate.
There is less blood here than in “Blood Party”, special effects too, and they are reduced to not bad, but obviously not the main things like a knife piercing the desk, and blood dripping beautifully from the ceiling on the service. Basically, there's no special dismemberment, so in this respect “Blood Party” is definitely better.
As far as the maniac goes. The party's Russ Thorne with his perpetual drill was much more charismatic than here's Bobby (a good name for a murderer). Bob is absolutely faceless, unremarkable, is kept in a nuthouse, where the guards are such that not escaping is the highest sign of retardation, and his choice of weapons is absolutely tasteless - once in the hardware store he chooses a primitive knife from the abundance of axes, saws and other stabbing and cutting things, which is not normal at all.
Breasts. Girls. Heh. Well, the girls in “Blood Party” were prettier on the faces, but the ones here have pretty good mammary glands, so as a humble pervert, I'll equate the two movies.
Secondary enough, but in general not the worst slasher, still losing to “Blood Party”, which it tries so hard to be like. Recommended if you have already been baptized with such films and can watch them in peace.
