Immediately, without unnecessary preface, I declare - a great movie, an eternal movie. My favorite movie. After watching it the first time, I instantly rewinded and watched it again. And I will watch it again and again and again...
The movie tells about the events before the French Revolution, namely June 1789. It is then that one of the provinces of France, or better to say the government of this province, is disturbed by the mysterious Black Tulip. He robs the nobles and gives hope to the poor, embodying freedom. But in the world, the Black Tulip is Guillaume de Sanpre, a nobleman and a notorious lecher who has won the heart of every aristocrat. And no one knows that he has a twin brother - Julien. The direct opposite of his brother - naive, romantic, sometimes clumsy. And everything was so, until the fateful moment came: branded with a scar Guillaume is forced to hide, and his place in the world of glitter and luxury should take the innocent Julien. And now the entire fate of the third estate in the hands of this man ...
Alain Delon is simply gorgeous in the role of both brothers. The same man, but different people. The cynical and sinful Guillaume. It is worth to look at him and you can see his self-confidence, viciousness, temper ... And sweet Julien, who is learning to be his brother and a national hero. One gets the impression that this is the play of two people, not one.
A separate feature of the movie-humor. Every dialog can be cut into jokes, aphorisms and anecdotes. I have never laughed so hard! And it can't be conveyed on paper. You have to see it. You have to feel it. For which, by the way, special thanks to the Soviet dubbing - it's just above all praise.
- What would you do with the prince, the commander of the regiment?
- I would pom him, and then pom! And if necessary, and pom, pom, pom!
Bravery, selflessness, heroism... It's like a classic costume movie. Sword fights, chases, and beautiful views of mountains and waterfalls. What more does a good movie need?
- Stop drinking, death comes first. I've lived a long time in this world. Goodbye my friend, goodbye my dear Plantenchik.... (kisses his supposed executioner)
- Where are you going, my friend?
- To the scaffold. I want to die like Mary Stuart. I've got my scaffold, don't forget your axe.
It's a sight to behold.
