I haven't written any reviews for a long time, I was retired, but now I've decided to come out of hiding and write a review of Howard Hughes' masterpiece Hell's Angels!
This film is very important for world cinema, a big-budget Hollywood film with special effects that was simply spectacular for its time. This is where Technicolor was used for the first time! Hell's Angels was the most expensive film in cinema history for a long time, and only Gone with the Wind broke its record.
The main attraction of the film, of course, is the incomparable Jean Harlow! For Jean, this film was a brilliant debut, her first significant role in cinema! And although Jean does not appear on screen as often as one would like, it can be said that without her, this film would not have been so successful and would hardly have become so popular that even now films are being made about it.
After all, The Aviator with DiCaprio is nothing more than the story of the famous pilot, the first aviator Howard Hughes, and Jean Harlow's film debut. However, I found this film a little drawn out and boring; it only comes to life when Jean appears on screen, and all these scenes with endlessly flying and constantly exploding planes did not make much of an impression on me.
The color footage in the 1930 film looks a little ridiculous, like simply painted frames. Howard Hughes used several colors, but the best idea was to film Jean Harlow in Technicolor! Hell's Angels is the only film in which we can see the first platinum blonde Jean in color! Perhaps it was this fact that attracted me and prompted me to watch this film. For the nineteen-year-old actress, this film was a triumph, after which her career reached many heights, and she herself became the most popular actress in Hollywood in the 1930s and simply a great woman.
I watched Hell's Angels in very poor quality and with virtually no translation, so unfortunately I cannot give this legendary film the highest rating. I expected more from this sensational picture. But perhaps after watching this film again, I will change my rating.
