I first watched this film a long time ago, but at the time I perceived it as just another action movie. Today I watched it for the second time. You know, films like this should be part of your collection. John Woo showed in the film that for many people, money is everything... he showed people who are willing to sacrifice long-standing friendships for the sake of these dirty pieces of paper. Wayne Lee played just such a person, which is why I disliked him in this film.
I could write a lot here and still not say everything, because the film is heavy... I couldn't hold back my tears when Chi Wei's character tried to restore his crippled friend's memory (the scene is really touching) by telling him about their past. He cried, hoping to help in some way, but sitting opposite him was just a ‘living corpse’ who couldn't answer him... I can't say any more.
Everyone should see this film. It's a wonderful combination of action and drama, in which all the actors showed their highest level of skill. It had a small budget, but look at how it was filmed. Although, what can I say - the name John Woo alone should be enough to attract viewers.
I'm even a little confused. I don't know if this film is a masterpiece or not, but I will say one thing—you must watch this film. It will definitely not leave you indifferent, believe me.
