Obsession 4K 2025

“Obsession” (2025) is a film about codependent relationships that’s a must-see for literally everyone.

The plot is as simple as can be. There are enough movies about obsession to span the distance from Earth to Mars. But this one is presented so masterfully. The lead actress’s expressive performance, the intensely tense relationship scenes, the realistic madness, and the very palpable fear of the guy who’s fallen into the classic trap: “Be careful what you wish for—it might just come true.”

For me, this dish is made from the simplest ingredients, but it’s filling, delicious, and you’ll want to eat it straight from the pan.

The film makes the viewer laugh, but it’s more of a nervous laugh, because we recognize ourselves in it.

When the heroine won’t let her partner get out of bed to use the restroom because she wants him to keep hugging her, we don’t laugh because it’s a comedic scene. We laugh because we awkwardly recognize our own relationships in it.

What makes this horror film so good is that, only at the most superficial level, can it be perceived as a movie about obsession. In reality, it’s an excellent metaphor for codependent relationships, where a partner becomes the center of the universe—the sole source of value, oxygen, water, and food.

It’s very romantic at fourteen. And very scary after thirty.

The film boldly explores the themes of dependence and expectations.

The heroine is dependent on obsessive thoughts about her partner, which are presented through the metaphor of demonic possession. But in real life, such thoughts work in a very similar way. Clients often describe them as forceful and intrusive, as something impossible to resist.

The male protagonist, meanwhile, is dependent on his own expectations. He wants to see another person, but is completely unprepared to face a real person who might reject him, choose someone else, or love him in some utterly terrifying way.

And he’ll have to pay a high price for these unrealistic expectations.

Since I’ve seen so many horror movies, I rarely enjoy them. This time, though, I didn’t regret spending the money on a ticket.

The director managed to make a film that’s stylish, smart, atmospheric, just scary enough, and even a little philosophical.
