P.T. Barnum (Hugh Jackman) is a middle-aged man who always wanted to devote himself to something grandiose and to become famous all over the world. The years go by, the main character has a family and children. Barnum works in a boring office, the financial situation is terrible, sometimes his wife and children just have nothing to eat. But then Barnum loses even this low-paid job. The company goes bankrupt and everyone gets fired. The head of the family takes risks, he forges documents and gets a credit at the bank. Hero spends all the loan money to open a circus. The main character has a chance to make his life successful. Soon another adventurous thought comes to his mind. He wants to bring together a lot of different unique people. Barnum invites a midget, a woman with a beard and other freaks to his circus.
