Despite the fact that I expected to see seasoned trash, the movie turned out to be from a completely different field. The first 30 minutes were wildly boring. It seems that there is action, some kind of dramatic subtext, but based on the description for the film, I want to see the very 'juice' of what is happening. As it turned out, the picture generally tells about completely different things and is a psychological thriller with elements of drama and horror.
The lion's share of the story focuses on domestic violence and stressful situations under one roof. When three children hang on the neck, and the husband is a frostbitten psychopath, it is not easy to find a way out. Therefore, the whole family lives in constant tension. They stopped smiling, believing in a bright future and just taking pain for granted.
The very same 'woman-eater' is rather the tip of the iceberg than the main idea of the picture.
Due to the general drama of what is happening, the movie looks realistic. The problems shown are really relevant and familiar. This fact helps to look at cruelty and violence from a completely different angle. Here it is perceived as a continuation of the general theme and that is why it is frightening.
In the film, there is no constant running around, a massacre with the main monster and the trademark 'I'll save myself in the last second'. In fact, selective violence is only at the very end. There is not much of that cruelty throughout the film, but what it is looks unusually creepy. Some shots are generally shocked.
Of the minuses, only the general length of the tape and long fragments to the music, where the experiences of the characters are shown, can be noted. Of course, such shots must be mandatory, but there is not enough content. Sometimes it seems that the creators also wanted to create a couple of touching clips. But this is certainly not a fatal blunder, so the film did not lose much from it.
