I always evaluate films, first of all, by the quality and level of emotions that they aroused in me (during the first viewing).
I watched the 'big fish' at home with a friend. In the end, we both cried, and this despite the fact that I consider myself to be to a certain extent cynical, and in relation to cinema, a very critical person, and the films that managed to bring me to tears can be counted on my fingers (one hand). My tears at that moment are not just empathy, sympathy for the difficult life of the heroes, I experienced some completely new feeling for me, bright, and at the same time bitter, and it seemed to me that I realized something extremely important, but this is what - I still can't put it into words.
Of course, Tim Burton is a genius director, but in this case I was very happy that he did without Johnny Depp and found him a more than worthy replacement in the person of Ewan McGregor and Albert Finney.
If I am asked about my favorite film, I usually call it 'Route 60' or 'The Fifth Element', but you can't fool your loved ones - they know that my favorite film is 'Big Fish'.
