Carl was always a fantasist and a fan of travel. His idol is Charles Muntz, who went on a trip to South America with his trained dogs. As a child, he met a charming girl, whom he later married and lived with her all his life. The woman had long dreamed of flying to Paradise Falls, but unfortunately, domestic concerns did not allow them to realize their dream. The spouses also wanted to have a child, but the wife was diagnosed with infertility. In old age, the woman died, and the man was left all alone. He was the only old man in his area, as almost all the neighbors were replaced by new young tenants. By decision of the city administration, he was evicted to a nursing home, where he decided to realize his longtime goal. The pensioner inflated countless balloons, tied them to himself and his home, and then flew into the air. But he did not notice that with him flew upstairs pesky teenager named Russell, who takes care of the sick and lonely people in this institution.
